A special offer on ALL CHANGE AT OLD TRAFFORD,
the forthcoming autobiography of former Manchester United manager Frank O'Farrell,
is available from this website. The book, due out during
October, will retail for £12.99 but it can be purchased from
this site for just £10.99, including postage and packing. O'Farrell grew up in Cork
wanting to follow in his father's footsteps and become a steam
train driver. Instead he was snapped up by West Ham
United and later played for Preston North End. He then managed with great
success at Weymouth (player-manager for a spell), Torquay
United and Leicester City before being appointed manager of
Manchester United in the summer of 1971. He was told by Matt
Busby he had
"five years" to sort things out at Old Trafford, and by
December in his first season United topped the Division One
table by five points. But the 1972-73 season started badly and O'Farrell was
sacked just 18 months into his reign, and replaced by Tommy
Docherty. He then managed Cardiff briefly before taking over
as boss of the Iranian national team, and leading them to
victory in the 1974 Asian games. O'Farrell later returned to
Torquay, where he now lives in retirement at the age of 83. Either send a cheque for £10.99
